Eco Boiler Scheme

ECO Boiler Scheme Versions

Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a UK Government initiative that aims to provide more energy-efficient boilers to low-income houses in the region to reduce carbon emissions.  

This scheme has four versions so far:

  • ECO1
  • ECO2
  • ECO3
  • ECO4

As of 2023, this scheme is now termed ECO4, the fourth funding round so far.

Who Qualifies for a Free ECO Boiler Grant?

To qualify for a free boiler grant, the candidate must fulfil these requirements:

  • Must Be a Homeowner or Tenant
  • The existing Boiler Must Be 5+ Years Old
  • EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) Is of Rating D or Below
  • Has a Broken or Defective Boiler
  • Has a Low Income or Receives Certain Means-Tested Benefits

Applicants must receive at least one of these benefits:

  • Pension Guaranteed Credit (excluding Savings Credit)
  • Income Related Employment Support Allowance
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Pension Savings Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Child Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
